more in common than you think | the daughter admiring the view of Nice |
I live in Liverpool in the UK but try to escape to my tiny holiday studio in Nice in the South of France as often as possible (if I can bag a cheap seat with easyJet) The weather in Liverpool can be very frustrating but in Nice the summer sun is just about guaranteed. Weather apart, Nice and Liverpool do have a few things in common. They are both the fifth largest city in their country with all the advantages of city life - fine museums and art galleries, impressive architecture, a great choice of restaurants and cafes etc as well as Cathedrals, Universities, wonderful parks and sculpture. Both have attractive Ports and the city centres of Nice and Liverpool are within a few minutes bus ride from the airport. Both Nice and Liverpool have started work to re-introduce a tram system over the next few years. Nice and Liverpool are very accessible now due to the easyJet route and the 40 minute check-in means that I can go from door to door in under 4 hours. I have discovered many new places to visit in Nice and Liverpool from other VT members' pages and I hope that some of the information in my website may inspire others to visit one or both of these vibrant cities. | the daughter thought she was back in Liverpool |
| | another spurious link... In Liverpool there is a jaunty model of the yellow submarine made famous by The Beatles' song. There is a similar yellow submarine in Nice and here is a picture of it. (It's actually in Monaco by the Oceanographic Museum - but I reckon that's close enough!) I don't have a picture of the Liverpool sub but you will find one here on Sabsi's Liverpool page. |
only fair to include a photo of Liverpool too... This is the 'amazing maize maze' at Speke Hall in Liverpool (right by the airport). The maze has been a great attraction for the last few years and you get a yellow flag to wave if you get lost and need rescuing. Speke Hall is a National Trust property - a rare, timbered Tudor house in beautiful grounds with a (tasteful) playground and cafe. Well worth a visit. If you try the maze on a hot day, take some water and yes, we did have to be rescued. The maze is grown from scratch to a different design every year and therefore has a limited season as a maze, usually late Summer to early Autumn. visit the Speke Hall website www.spekehall.org.uk | | | the husband bravely takes the lead... |

| me in the archway, Albert Docks, Liverpool |
| | The Albert Docks, October 2003 This is the classic photo that everyone takes in Liverpool; a view of the Liver Building in the far distance through the archway at the front of the Albert Dock.
The Liver Building is one of three buildings - the 'Three Graces'. The other two buildings are the Cunard Office and The Mersey Docks and Harbour Board Offices. |
