Alice Springs itself is a nice little town, but not really a "must see".
But it is the biggest Town in the Middle of Australia and it is THE starting point for any trip to :
the Ayers Rock (say: Uluru),
the Olgas, (Kata Tjuna)
the Kings Creek Canyon,
the Glen Helen Gorge,
Orniston Gorge,
Wallace Rockhole,
Goss Bluff
Ellery Creek
Finke River
Palm Valley
Standley Chasm
Ochre Pitts
....
So Australias Middle is not really the middle of Nowhere....
The picture is taken on Anzak Hill.
On the picture you can see the hills in the background: Its the MacDonnel Ranges and the doorway they are building is the Heavytree Gap. Here the Todd River comes through - and the Road: Staurt Highway. In times with much water the road is flooded regularly.

We visited Alice and the area in June 2005, Corinne. I enjoyed reliving the experience with your page. Very, very nice. I remember Mount Conner. Our guide called it the "fake Uluru". ; ) |
