Kenya Home Page

Welcome

Masai People
Welcome to my Kenya home page. Me and my wife visited this country between November and December 2000. It was our first visit to Africa, and despite my wife going down with dysentry towards the end of the holiday, we had a wonderful time.

We stayed at the Southern Palms hotel at Diani Beach for 2 weeks, which is about an hour or so by coach South of Mombasa. It was an all inclusive holiday so we were pretty much confined to the hotel complex for the 2 weeks, although we did venture out a couple of times to some nearby shops. The beach was fantastic, the sand was almost a pure white colour and there was lovely coral reefs for snorkelling. The only problem we found was that the local people would hassle you non-stop to try and buy something. This became a real nuisance after a while and you had to quite firm to tell them you're not interested.

We also did a 3 day safari excursion to Taiti Hills, Salt Lick Lodge, and Ziwani tented camp near the border with Tanzania.

We found the people very friendly and the hotel was one of the best we have stayed at.

Since our visit to Kenya there has been increased terrorism around the world, but I hope that doesn't put people off visiting this country. If you get the opportunity it is a wonderful place to visit.

We visitied in November and December., and apart from a thunderstorm the day we arrived, we had hot sunshine every other day. The humidity was very high. The temperature was around 32C (90F) most days and around 25C (77F) overnight. If you go inland towards Taiti Hills the temperature is cooler, overnight it was down to around 15C (59F) so a sweater is recommended.

There isn't much in the way of tips on this page. It is mostly a collection of photos in my travelogues section. I hope you like them and find it useful in planning your travels.
