Packing Lists: It's all about sun, sea & sand..:-)

  • Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Shorts & sandals will do for most of your stay in the Cooks - but if you plan on going to one of the many churches on Raro to enjoy the fabulous singing, bring a nice dress/pair of pants, as the islanders dress up to go to church. In the winter months of June - August the evenings might be a bit chilly - bring a sweater.

Toiletries & Medical Supplies: Bring lots of sun tan lotion & sun block!! The sun is quite intense, and you'll need a higher SPF than you normally use. You will of course find sun tan lotion in the island's shops, but it'll be quite expensive - and you might not find your preferred brand.

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: If you're a keen snorkeller (and if you're not, you will be after snorkelling in the amazing lagoons of the Cooks...:-) you should consider bringing your own snorkelling gear or buying a snorkel & mask at the Dive Shop in Avarua, as the quality of rented gear can be quite disappointing.

It's also a good idea to bring an old t-shirt to wear whilst snorkelling - to avoid sun burn. Wear reef shoes when wading, as there are some poisonous stonefish in the lagoons.

I just read your Aitutaki pages, and they are great and very accurate! I've been there, too, and it's one of my favorite places in the S. Pacific (all of the Cooks).
