Wineglass & Honeymoon

by SharrieShaw - last update: Sep 5, 2006

Picnic at Honeymoon Bay
Jan. 14, 2005

A year ago on this day, I was all excited in Ushuaia waiting to embark on the trip of my lifetime.
That day seemed just like yesterday. It's etched on my memory & will be in my mind for a long time to come.

Usually, we plan for a trip & have in mind what we are looking for.
At times, we are enchanted with the surprise factor in life.
But this day last year, I was thrown into a world I never quite know what to expect.
The cruise, my first one, to the end of the world.
The first cruise I was on was on the Nile River.
That, technically, don't count as a cruise since it's not even on open ocean!
& by the end of my trip, I had gone to both ends of the world.
Antarctica & the Arctic Circle.

Arctic was the wild card. It was not planned, not thought of. Until Jan. 14, 2004!
The very day I was to embark Explorer II to Antarctica!
Amazing, isn't it?

Ok, what has all these got to do with Freycinet?
Well, same with Arctic, Freycinet was not planned... how could I? I didn't even know of its existence until I set foot in Tasmania on Christmas 2004!
For most part, Freycinet is known only to the locals, more so, the Tassie.
It's not a world tourist attraction!
Same with the Arctic Circle... how many do you think venture there in the middle of winter? ;-)

Yet, here it comes... do you know that within Freycinet National Park are some of the most spectacular sceneries in the world?
That if you are into the beaches, Freycinet has one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, unknown to many? In fact, it was voted by traveler magazines to be one of the top 10 beaches?
I'm referring to Wineglass Bay.
Wineglass Bay... even the name sounds romantic.
Seemingly a paradise.
Is it one?
Well, you’ll have to discover it for yourself.
One thing is for sure, you won’t have to share it with many!
This is certainly a place for champagne & the roses :-)

Loved your enthusiasm. "Not an international desination"? I think that must have changed as every third group I met came from overseas. Nice pics as well. P.S. If you want to see some really good beaches, give me a yell.

Great <pictures. Having been there, you should create some tips to encourage other visitors to go there. Freycinet definitely ranks amongst my favorite places on Earth!
