Romania in winter

by ATLC - last update: Sep 11, 2002

Countryside around Brasov

A wild ride on some horsecarts. Loud singing to keep warm. We got a hot alcoholic drink afterwards, called Twicca. It tasted and smelled like gasoline but still it was might good after the cold!

Icon

Inside monastery. Right in the middle the icon of some famous saint is kept.

Brasov Square, another view

Church in the countryside

Castelbran

The famous castle of Dracula. Count Dracul was in fact a historic figure.

Inside Castelbran

Inside Castelbran2

Market Castelbran

Souvenirs shopping.

mausoleum

In the tower there are the bones of 400 soldiers from the World Wars, here outside Campulung.

The Romania countryside

Dinner

Romanians are very hospitable people.

Singing

Romanians will break out in a song at any given opportunity. And well they sing!

Dancing

or break into a bout of dancing
Group picture in the Monastery of Cuearte d'Arges where we were guided by the Secretary of the Bishop. We were also invited into the monastery itself (where the monks live) for a drink and some sweet stuff made of roses.

Pour me another one

Curtea d'Arges monastery

Looking up and what did we see?

Tower wonder

Monastary towers which are straight but because of the lines they look crooked!

Monastery interior

Icon

This very small monastery has a little village next to it where the nuns live. The chapel is built into the mountain rock.

I still haven't visited Romania - I must finally go there in 2008! You make it sound like a fascinating country with friendly people - sounds ideal to me! :-)
