Brand new for the season | BRIELLE SHIP PRINCE ADMIRAEL |
The Prince Admirael plays an important role in the April 1st 1572 festivities as well as it being used for the promotion of Brielle. It is also called "geuzenschip", the ship of the Sea Beggars that sailed into Brielle with captain Lumey to free the town from the Spaniards. In reality it is a steel casco, made to look like a mini galley ship. A group of enthusiastic, history-minded people, sail this boat in and around Brielle but also to other historical cities in The Netherlands. Of course they are all in costume of that time. At festivities there are canon shots from the boat, even with brightly coloured smoke (orange for the Queen's birthday). |

Re-launch The boss of the shipyard woke up one morning, looked out of the window and saw that the Prince Admirael had sunk! At first he thought it was an April Fools day prank. The ship is shown at relaunch, newly restored and painted. |

The Prince Admirael had been newly renovated and because of that there was a local party in September 2002. |
Festivities and costume, like this couple... There were festivities at the relaunch of course, and lots of people in Brielle got dressed appropriately... |
