| BRIELLE MARITIME FESTIVAL |
Brielle maritime festival A festival occurs every last weekend of August: Brielle Maritiem. Lots of beautiful (old) boats come to Brielle and on the quay old-fashioned games are played and people are costumed. The proceeds of the festival go to the rebuilding of a tiny old house called "Zakkendragershuisje" (Sack carrier house) from where the sack carriers did their job. |
Ship of the "Sack carriers" Ship of the Zakkendragers. In the old days, when a ship came in, there were men who would unload it, called sack carriers. They would be summoned by a bell and the first to arrive would be allowed to do the job. Provided they weren't drunk! |
Zakkendragershuisje This is a photo of the original Zakkendragershuisje. The new one is almost rebuilt and the clock already in place! Next travelogue is Brielle shopping |
