The Neighborhood owes its name to the "pulperia" that, in 1804, built up Don Nicolas Vila, in the corner of Avenida Rivadavia and Emilio Mitre, known by its typical "veleta" shaped as a horse. As every other neighborhood on the west with the arrival of the railway the neighborhood made a huge progress. Since 1857 the railway went through the neighborhood, the local station was named after the famous "pulperia".
It was an area of luxurious country houses all along the Avendia Rivadavia, it was for the portenos a place to spend the weekends. Precisely, from one of those country houses, the one of Mr. Ambrosio Placido Lexica, the Rivadavia Park was born, in 1928, in the square Primera Junta. A "replica" of the traditional veleta of Caballito, brings us back to those times in which the neighborhood was almost a mandatory resting area before entering Buenos Aires. |
