| Long-Neck Karens and Child |
Padaung women, also known as Long-neck Karens, one of the strangest ethnic groups in Myanmar. The women begin "stretching" their necks with brass coils as adolescents, becoming 30cm long or more by old age. However, "long-neck" is actually a misnomer, because instead of stretching out the neck, the pressure of 11 pounds of brass simply compresses the collarbones and ribs down. |
