Les Amis du Pont Neuf | Meeting on Le Pont Neuf (photo by Dr.Firas) |
Paris will always hold a special place in my heart. One reason being it was the city that hosted my very first VT meeting! Hence, there were many more celebrated VT bashes to follow in that glorious city! My last visit to Paris was the kickoff to the incredible Round the World journey I took with my Sybarite. It was also the long-awaited opportunity for me to meet "up close and personal" more of my favorite people here on VT.
Some of my favorite Paris travel pages were writeen by the members I was so looking forward to meeting: Dr.Firas (Firas),ExGuyParis (Paul),and "Monsieur Paris" himself......Guyon (Ray).
Preparation for this meeting was light-hearted and amusing.....from the emails of anticipation with one another, to the hilarious SMS messages from Firas "counting down the days" of our meeting!
To mark this event even more significant, the decision was made to meet in one of the most celebrated landmarks in Paris: Le Pont Neuf.
It was an unseasonably beautiful, warm Spring day in the City of Lights.......and one of the most memorable visits for me yet! |
| Cheers to cherished friendships! |
| | Strolling to the Ile-St-Louis Our meeting on Le Pont Neuf was all set for 5pm. It would leave enough time for Paul to arrive straight from work, and for Firas to arrive from his train ride from Dijon. I was so honored that Firas would travel all that way just to visit with us! What a friend!!
It was just the 3 of us "Amis" to start with before dinner, as both Ray and Christian would be meeting us after they finished up work.
I hustled my way onto the train from the hotel in Montmartre......Oh look! I have 30 minutes to spare! Hmmm....whatever shall I do? ;-))
SHOP, of course!!
Being so centrally located, the Pont Neuf was just steps away from some of the best shopping on the Right Bank!
Once I arrived, I discovered there was construction on the bridge. We agreed to meet right in the middle of the bridge (which happened to be right where the construction was taking place! Oh no!!)
I figured I could easily spot Firas and Paul from a mile away! So I waited......and waited. 20 minutes later I felt the vibration of my phone and found.....what's this? An SMS message from Firas: "I'm in the middle of the bridge!"
I scurry over to the OTHER end of the bridge and sure enough......there stands the smiling Syrian with the tall, distinguished Expat in Paris!
We shared lots of warm hugs and laughter just like "old friends"..........and we agreed that an ice cold beer sounded like a perfect way to start the evening!
So we took a leisurely stroll over to the Ile-St-Louis while making new discoveries about each other, and about Paris! |
| Where Diamonds are a Girl's Best Dinner Date!" |
| | The "Mistress" Hideaway! During our walk to Ile-St-Louis, Paul pointed out a landmark restaurant along our route: Restaurant Laperouse (51 quai des Grands Augstins)
This restaurant was frequented by famous locals such as George Sand, Victor Hugo, and Emile Zola. What made this historic landmark "famous," however, was the fact that it was where the wealthy took their "mistresses" to dine and the mirrors inside the restaurant still bear the scratches from where these mistresses didn't take their diamonds at face value.
If it's "cubic zirconia," fellas, you can skip the "DESSERT!" ;-)))
Thanks for that interesting tidbit of Parisian history, Paul ! |
| | Well........it was a fantastic idea! Our initial meeting place for dinner was going to be at the quaint restaurant that ExGuyParis (Paul) recommended called.........what else? Chez Paul!
It is located in the charming Place Dauphine which is just a stroll away from Le Pont Neuf.
We arrived to the restaurant to find out they're CLOSED! Not sure what the occasion was but the lights were out and nobody was home.
Ah well.........it did make for another clever VT Photo opportunity! |
| | The Thinking Girl's Dream Since Chez Paul was closed, we ended up settling in at the restaurant next door.
Soon the rest of the dinner dates arrived!
Le Sybarite soon followed by the charming Guyon |
| | What was for dinner? I don't quite remember the name of the restaurant, and I don't even remember how the meal was. |
| | Wine for dinner! All I remember was being engaged in some interesting conversations accompanied by some of the finest French wine!
(It's what matters most, right?) ;-) |
| The smiles make ya go weak in the knees! |
| | Yes, another BEAUTIFUL day in Paris! Perfect warm spring day, perfect dining atmosphere..........and a "Geisha's" perfect dinner dates!
Another classic VT meeting! |
