Marble Canyon and Chimney Rock

The Chimney Rock that towers more than 200 feet high is always an interesting and eerie sight.
This is a telephoto shot taken from the highway below. If you look carefully, you can see a couple of small trees growing on the top of it....how they survive on the bare rock, and how they got there is a mystery.
Chimney Rock, Marble Canyon
Chimney Rock as it appears from the road below.

Marbelous Marble Canyon, looming 3000 feet above

Slab of old fir bark
Bark...from a fallen tree on the side of Marble Canyon... the mighty Douglas Fir probably stood here for more than half a mellenium
Broken fir tree
While driving up the tortuous road on the west side, I happened upon this wild cherry tree in full bloom...in stark contrast to the dry and forbidding landscape around.

More chimneys

This is all that remains of the former Pavilion General Store. It burned to the ground a few years back.

Big country! Chimney Rock reminds me of the Wanamaker. Meant to say I did listen to Fox play Komm Susser Todd before. I just can't hear *him* talk.
