Do You Travel Safe?

Travel in today’s world is easier than ever before but it also presents new challenges for travelers in terms of personal safety and security.

Tourists, as well as seasoned travelers, comprise a target-rich environment for people and organizations that make a living by taking advantage of others and compromising more than just their holiday or vacation time.

While there is no single source of information that can assure any traveler being 100% safe and secure, there are some precautions travelers can take and a reminder to use both common sense and to follow your gut instincts and hunches when appropriate.

I’ll try to highlight some of the more important and timely safety and security tips that I personally follow in this, my first installment for Virtual Tourist and I would encourage readers of VT, when checking the travel tip categories to pay close attention to member’s entries related to this topic under “Warnings or Dangers”. There are many first-hand issues or potential problem areas that local and/or recent visitors can highlight that a traveler might not find in a book, website article or periodical.

Lake Placid is a tranquil lake and picnic area located on the outskirts of Cairns. The lake is at the end of the Barron Gorge, which is a popular place for white water rafting.
