Take a Hike!

by travelfrosch

My mom recently said, “You can only get a good feel of a place by walking.” I have to say I wholeheartedly agree. And I believe it to be especially true in places of great natural beauty. As long as you take the right precautions (more on that in a later article), it’s best to leave the tour buses behind, put on some good hiking boots, and explore!

There is certainly no shortage of hikes to choose from around the world, depending on your physical condition, personal preferences, and desired travel destination. The easiest type of hike for beginners is a “day hike,” that is, a relatively short 2-5 hour hike that starts and ends in the same location. A very popular example is the day hike to the Gemmipass in the Swiss Alps, which has magnificent views, as well as the added advantage of easy transportation options for those who may tire easily. Another hike in the same area, the Heuberg Rundweg, is slightly more difficult, but affords some of the best views I have ever experienced. Do you prefer a hike with a view of the Matterhorn, perhaps? No problem -- here’s an invigorating day hike with unsurpassed Matterhorn views.
