St-Emilion – Wine Loving Traveler - Hold on to Your Heartby easterntrekker A mere six-hour drive from Paris, between Libourne and Castillon-La-Bataille, is the ancient storybook village of St- Emilion. Built into a limestone hill, the old golden stone houses of this medieval town nestle between the rolling green hills, hug the slopes and are surrounded by walls draped with grape vines. Miles of vineyards and Châteaux’s surround the entire town with names often recognized for the famous wine they produce. Known for his kindness and miracles Emilion eventually became a hermit and spent his days in an underground cave devoted to God. The cave still exists and over hundreds of years has been enlarged to become a massive underground chapel. It is said the spirit of St Emilion is still present in the town living through the stone, making visitors feel that they are never alone. Maybe that is part of the romance we feel as we roam the narrow cobblestone streets of the village. read the entire article >>
