'Off the beathen path' in Algeria is perhaps a trip out in the sand dunes although you dont have to travel far to find them. Sahara cover most of the country, only a relatively small part of the northern part is not desert. If you wanna go real out of the beaten path you may take a camelride out in the desert, perhaps hundreds of kilometers from the nearest road. THE PHOTO: TAKING A WALK IN THE DESERT AROUND EL OUED.

Izgher: a laid back village

by dabuwan

Izgher is a small oasis village about 50 km from Timimoun. It's really a laid back place, and inhabitants are a strange mixture of different races with a strong sub-saharian and animist influence. No electricity, no running water, you really feel far from everyting, in a different time.

A church between the sand dunes

by dabuwan

About half an hour by car from Timimoun there is a Catholic church, right between the sand dunes, with a few palm-trees scattered around. Nothing else around but sand. The church itself anyway is well kept (also inside), but its location is really amazing.

Meet people at a well

Most of our trip through Algeria was off the beaten path, since we crossed the Sahara from south to north.Meeting people at a well or a waterhole was a very special moment! I have the fondest memories of this!!!

Tafassasset Wadi once was a big river reaching the depression of the Ciad lake and today is a large track whose run gets lost in the sands of Teneré. The view fades in the infinite where earth and sky to mingle in the horizon.Look my slides
