CHILL OUT: Most sofisticated Restaurant in Angola
  • Satisfaction:
  • Last cry in entertainment in Luanda. An elegant semi-outdoor restaurant, with bar & lounge, with kind of Ibiza-Marrakesh style.
Beautiful people in Luanda and very good food.

Remember an excellent sirloin steak with sauce. Also, a sofisticated recipe for cod-fish (bacalhau).

    Tropico: Frozen fish!
  • Satisfaction:
  • I had the mis-pleasure of eating here with my partner and some work colleagues. We wandered past the attractive-looking buffet to find our pals in the corner. The "A la Carte" restaurant resembles a Travelodge foyer, and was unnacceptly hot for a so-called four-star hotel. The waiter rushed us into ordering and messed who had asked for what dish.
Two of us (six in total) had starters. I was so shocked by the 3000+ price tag on all the main courses, I chose to fill up on the bread, tuna and olives (they'd charge us anyway, it was that kind of place). It took ages for the wine to come, we chose well, but it was as overpriced as the food, and we caned bottles of water in a bid to keep cool.
My main course of fish in a pernod and prawn sauce was nothing more than frozen fillets, so tough I couldn't finish them, and one, yes that's right, one prawn, sliced in three to look like three and a cloying sauce. It came served with some overcooked broccoli and some salty potatoes... mmmm.. delicious - not!
My partner had "bife steak Portuguese" which was in a watery sauce with undercooked potatoes around the edge. It came in a rustic-style bowl, so rustic in fact it cracked when the waitress took it away - ie, it had seen it's fair share of the microwave.
My friend's salmon had also spent its fair spell in the deep freeze, served up an unappetising grey. The wine didn't last long between seven, but when we tried to order more drinks, the staff were nowhere to be seen. Just as well - the bill weighed in at more than $400 dollars - two starters, two puddings, six main courses and one bottle of wine.
I don't mind paying out for a good meal with good service in a pleasant setting.
I had a problem with Tropico.
If you're looking for somewhere posh in Luanda - look beyond here!

  • Many different types of fresh fruit, veg, fish and meat can be bought at the side of the road in Angola. Out of the cities you often see bush meat taken from the jungle for sale.

This is a simple open-air restaurant located in the park (Avenide de Lenine). Only cook common Angolan food with some sandwiches.
