piri-piri shrimp by Ekahau Angola was a Portuguese colony and its food and cuisine owe much to the old colonial power. The Portuguese not only imported their foodstuff and cooking methods to Angola, but those of its other colonies, so that today Angolan cuisine is not very different from Brazilian cuisine. Some of the dishes I eat in Luanda are well known in Brazil. While I ended up being quite happy with the menu. I also enjoyed piri-piri shrimp and muamba de galinha, however a critical ingredient of this last dish is palm oil and it is hard to find out of Africa. You'll mainly find the restaurants concentrated around two different locations. Downtown near the Le Presidente Meridien, the only 'proper' hotel in the city. Rialto is a pizza restaurant and ice cream place that you'll find here. It's not bad. On the beachside on the south side of the bay you'll find many places. Here you have some nice seafood restaurants, and even a Wimpy hamburger restaurant. Coconuts is a expensive restaurant that lies here, the food is good. Miami has good salads, facing the beach, lively atmosphere, popular on sundays. I can not stress enough, be carefull of what you eat. Make sure it's cooked properly. DO NOT take icecubes in your drinks. Drink only bottled water and so on... My colleague returned home with two different sorts of agressive parasites. The food in theese restaurants are good if it's cooked, and very expensive. I live in Norway, and it was expensive even to me! ;) Leave a Comment Theme: Other

This is a very pleasant restaurant very frequented by rich locals and Portuguese expatriates. It is located at the border with the National Park Kisama, at one side of the River Cuanza. It is located at about 70 kilometres south of Luanda and you will need to change buses in Gomes e Irmao. For the second part of that journey it is better to hitchhike because the buses are few and far between. Count a whole day to get there and back to Luanda, but it is worth. The atmosphere besides the powerful River Cuanza is unforgettable; you will hear unknown sounds from exotic birds. There are many military controls along the way but they treat foreigners very well. Ah, by the way! food in Kisama Restaurant is stupendous! And the beers are Sagres, directly imported from Lisbon.
