le yes papa: le yes papa: really dissapointing

I went to the yes papa with some of the girls because of the comment here from missmango.
And we were shocked, we made similar experience like linda2011 described it. It seems to be right that the yes papa is not a commercial bar, it is very humble equipped and dirty, but there a lots of people who really stare at us... maybe because we are goodlooking european women who wanted to go out to enjoy the night - this was like zoo.
we left this place really fast again because we were often disturbed by people who wanted to be invited for a drink...
I agree in so fare, that of course you cannot argue about taste, but there are some facts which make this place an absolutely nogo - sorry for being honest.

Le Yes Papa: A real Beninese Place for Handmade Music
missmango profile photo
missmango 1 reviews

I have been to the Yes Papa very often now and when I read the other comments here I am a bit surprised. I guess there is a misunderstanding that easily occurs if you do not really make the effort to actually talk to the people there. The Yes Papa is not a commercial bar as such but a cultural NGO trying to provide a platform for Beninese musicians. The bar is just a side thing to make evenings a little more comfortable for visitors.
The Yes Papa offers a space where professional and semi-professional musicians can perform. You can also have classes there, exchange with the musicians and buy local music that has not been pirated. It is a genuine Beninese approach and in my view should definitely be supported. Of course you cannot argue about taste (and I had great evenings in the Coco as well) but comparing the Yes Papa to a glitzy foreign owned place like the Coco Cocktail just is like comparing apples with oranges.
I have had wonderful evenings at the Yes Papa with music ranging from ok to extraordinary. Like with every ‘jam session’ place in the world, you never know what the evening will bring before you actually get there (unless you check their new website leyespapa.blogspot.com). Oh, and as for being hit on… last time that happened to me I just asked the bar tender to help me and he took care of it immediately…
So in short – I can definitely recommend this place to all who are interested in the real Benin and in hand made music not just the computerized dancefloor beats they give you everywhere else.

Bar Cafe Cappuccino: Cool place for starting into the night
Linda2011 profile photo
Linda2011 5 reviews

This place is called "Bar Cafe Cappuccino" and it is one of the best places in town to begin the weekend. A rally cosy drinking spot located in a sidestreet of rue des cheminots. And I easily found it because of the desciption given here. It is really closed to the concrete water tower called "Chateau d'eau Maro Militaire". Go there and enjoy the start of the weekend :-)

le yes papa: Wrong choice for our friday's night trip

I lived in Cotonou for about 2 years now. I enjoyed it very much. I went to this place because I heard from a friend it is cool. But I will never again this place!!!
We could buy no drinks. Then after a while they had again, but no change... It was friday and there was only one man shouting instead of singing in front. This was for me and my friend a total no go place: Touched by foreigners, unclean bottles, filthy tabels and this amateur musican in front. We left the place immediate. I cannot recommend this place to anyone. Later on we went to Coco Cocktail which was danceable and a really good alternative to save the night.

New-York-Bar: Cool place to meet people and dance

Pleasant place with quite good music. Drings for fair prices and lots of fun. And most important you are not harassed in the club.
You don't feel like in other African night clubs where you cannot be alone five minutes without being asked as a girl from some local men as in some other places like le yes papa . So, come and enjoy the music and drinks.

The Coco Cocktail is one of the best places in town. Disco, live music, drinks and interesting people. When you are in Cotonou and want to go out - don't miss it. It is in Haie Vie, only some meteres from the Livingstone, wehre you can have good food before :-)

YES PAPA: Not good live music

I came to Cotonou as peacecorps volunteer. I found this place here on virtualtourist.com. Me and some friends decided to visit this place for listening live music. Never again! The music they presented was awful. everything was dirty, the seats were uncomfortable and we were the only white women there. So we were disturbed all the time by someone and felt really uncomfortable at this small dirty backyard.

After that we went to Haie Vie to the Coco Cocktail - this is definitely the place to go on fridays and saturdays to dance and meet nice people. It is only some meters from Livingston where you can eat good stuff...

YES PAPA: Best place in town for LIVE MUSIC

fini2010 2 reviews

One of the best places in town for listening to live music every friday and saturday from 11 p.m. up to the end. There are jam sessions as well as concert of professional musicians. the entrance fee and the prices for drinks are moderate.
this place is for locals and guests from above the world - a typical MUST SEEN! Don't miss it!

The nightclub at Dynamic Hotel, Cotonou

The discoteque and nightclub in the ground floor of Dynamic Hotel is a high class place. The guests are mainly middle class africans. Free entrance, but the drinks are pricy.

Situated in the Minnontin area, 15 min from the airport and 100 meter from Super marche Benin.
