ALL YOU CAN EAT KUDU

by DAO

Now this is a Braai! While I was staying at the Thakadu Bush Camp in Ghanzi, Chris the owner shot a Kudu. Then the staff prepared the largest animal I have ever seen on a spit. It took all day and into the evening with a huge open fire, but the result was magnificent. The meal was served with different accompanying dishes, but meat was the centrepiece. Because there was so much meat, it was all you could eat! At one point I found myself with a huge knife cutting off hunks of tender fillet meat from the centre while it was still over the fire. A few mouthfuls of that and an ice cold Castle lager – absolute Heaven!

Wildlife, The Okavango and Change

by John195123

You can learn a lot about animals in Botswana. For example, the impala, as well as other prey animals, will only run a short distance from suspected danger so they don't run into other dangers. These short-distance tactics aren't seen on nature programs, of course, when the hunt is on and the prey aren't just escaping possible danger but are escaping real danger. It's somewhat of a sad bit of reality that we have civilized ourselves away from... confining "wild" animals to game reserves and some open places in between. In the Okavango Delta, you're out with the animals. Even in places like Moremi and South Africa's Kruger, the animals are real enough- elephants can still charge, lions will still attack. But Africa is no longer purely the naturally wild place it was when Livingstone explored, and before him... Elephants amble to concrete watering holes, zebras laze around in-ground...

Mata-Mata tourist facility

by kiberenge

The opening of Mata-Mata and the Sendelingsdrift Tourist Access facility are key to the strategy (of) desert tourism which explores the natural linkage between Kgalagadi and Ai/Ais/Richtersveld Transfrontier parks, South Africa's Augrabies Falls National Park and the soon-to-be-declared Sperregebiet National Park in Namibia. Movement between the three southern countries has been made easy.Mata-Mata will enable tourists to travel between the three countries via shorter routes and through efficient and convenient border control facilities.

Money

by Hatschepsut

1. 20 films for your camera is not enough!2. Take enough money with you!Its not easy to find a place where you can use your card.At least if you want a Souvenir you can change into your pen, shoes or something else... The best Memories are to have a friendly and very funny guide and to see wild animals in a distance of 1-5 meters in the wilderness..

Move Around

by kucha

Try to get to each of the major game parks, as well as the Okavango Delta. This country is rich with woldlife viewing and natural beauty in different habitats. Chobe is particularly scenic, with the river running through it, Savuti is typically dryer and Moremi is more wooded. Each, however, have their own distinct viewing and camping sites.See also individual tips. 1) Chobe: great elephants and gorgeous sunsets2) Savuti/Linyanti: lions everywhere you look including a a notable pair in the midst of mating3) Moremi: a vicious hippo fight right outside our campsite one night4) Mahatsu: terrific elephants nad predators5) Okavango: natural beauty and birds, birds, bird...

Budgeting

by kucha

This is perhaps the most important question! Think ahrad about what you like to do and how much you are willing to carry your own gear and/or set up your own camp. Are you up for sleeping outside in a tent every night? Or would you prefer to "rough it" in a Brangelina-type lodge? An African safari can cost as little as $100 per day for a participation camping overland safari (I love these!) to well over $500 a day for the exclusvie lodges (not bad either, if you can splurge once or twice during a trip). Some companies specialize in budget safaris for the young “back-packer” wanting to “rough it” on an overland safari, while others cater to the more affluent seasoned traveler who wants to experience Africa in style and comfort. These are some things to consider when choosing a safari that matches your budget and desired comfort level. Shown below are a variety (not all taken in Botswana)...

Moremi Game Reserve

by ALOTT

One of the most butiful game reserves I have ever visited in Africa. Totally unspoilt, untouched and a real adventure. I have been there two times, travelling by car from South Afrika. More tips upon request.

Have a drink in the lounge

by Radiomom

These open air lounges are soooooo appealing, expecially at night after dinner when you're involved in a good discussion of world affairs, or listening to past adventures of fellow guests. All beverages are included in the cost of your safari -- although I assume if you have SPECIFIC requests for a certain brand there might be an extra charge. We were totally satisfied with the "house" choices. Both Sandibe and Nxabega had their own wine cellars. I wish I'd been able to take night-time pictures that really captured the ambience -- but you'll have to be satisfied with what I have from daytime :-)
