Bear in mind that you will have to travel very long distances to get around Botswana. There are not many large communities to the west of Gaborone’s suburbs and virtually no communities between Nata and Kasane in the north. You’ll be looking at seven or eight hour bus rides, so get to the bus stand early if you don’t want to stand all the way. If you get a lift on the back of a 4x4 don’t be tempted to sit down while travelling on the rough tracks, as you’ll be badly bruised, stand up and enjoy the view. If you’ve still managed to stay on by the time the truck hits the Trans Kalahari Highway, sit down immediately and hold on to your hats and glasses, as the 4x4 goes into warp speed.
