Warm weather gear & school gifts

by David&Pauline

If you’re travelling in the winter, as we were, you’ll need warm clothing and a good sleeping bag. We camped at Thakadu but wished we’d brought sleeping roles, as the moisture of the sand seeped through the tent’s built in ground sheet. Though light, our nylon tent didn’t prove to be baboon proof and was shredded by the creatures, while we camped on the Chobe River bank. We stayed in a Bushman hut at Kalahari Sunset Safaris, despite been given blankets, we were glad of our sleeping bags as the temperature fell below freezing. We had wooden beds here but amazingly the San people sleep directly on the ground, wrapped in blankets, all year round. If you can, please take some paper for the San children at Buitsivango. Andrea Hardbattle runs a pre-school for the village children but drawing paper is in desperately short supply.
