Visit the CARACAL Biodiversity Center
When in Kasane remember to visit the CARACAL Biodiversity Center just up the hill from First National Bank. This amazing place is one of a kind in Botswana. Come and see indigenous amimals from mongoose to scorpions. Gate fees are used to support our environmental education program for school children in Chobe. Visit us at www.caracal.info or our facebook page CARACAL!
CARACAL is a field based non-profit, non-governmental organization, which was started in 2001 in recognition of the need to integrate traditional and scientific understanding of natural resources and promote partnership between Government and local communities in natural resource management. Our projects include the development of conservation and research programs which contribute to sustainable wildlife utilization, wildlife conflict resolution, endangered species management, rescue of injured wildlife, ecosystem health, and training of government staff, communities and school children for natural resource management. The new Biodiversity Center in Kasane opened in 2010 and supports rescued wildlife as part of our educational program and is open to the public for visitation Monday-Saturday from 9-5. Come see Botswana's natural wonders and enjoy!

Game drives and river cruises
Since Kasane is on the edge of Chobe National Park, the logical thing to do there is take advantage of all of the natural beauty and chances to observe the wildlife in its natural environment. Boat tours provide a great opportunity to see hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and a myriad of birdlife, as well as the antelopes and other animals that come to the river to drink. Sunset on the river can be spectacular! Game drives through Chobe in open vehicles offer more wildlife viewing opportunities. We saw a lioness and her cub, plenty of impalas, warthogs, leopard tortoise, lots of birds, and, of course, more elephants.
- Adventure Travel
Kasane makes a great base if you want to cross over into Zambia or Zimbabwe. You can easily do a day trip to Victoria Falls from here - either to Livingston (Zam) or Vctoria Falls town (Zim). For VERY important information on the Kazangula corssings see my ferry tip!
Just be aware of visas (can be got at the borders) Zambia is more expensive than Zimbabwe.
The Falls are more impressive from the Zimbabwe side.
Hire cars are NOT allowed across to Zambia because for insurance purposes and to take the car across to Zimbabwe in the current climate you must talk very sweetly to the hire company and get special permission. You probably will not be allowed to go anywhere ither than the falls and you will probably not be allowed to stay overnight.

Take ride on ferry to visit Zambia
From Kasane you can take the ferry to Zambia, its a bit hectic, one huge truck , 4 cars and as much people as can crowd in climb on the ferry moving up and down all the time between Botswana and Zambia, there didnt seem times, when it gets go one side its turns back and goes to other side, There were 2 ferry's.
If you going by car or truck its a long wait... loooong wait, if walking just stand near front with your ticket and climb on. Remember you first have to clear though customs to get out Botswana. Then must go Through customs again in Zambia. ( and pay if you need visa) for Uk people visa was very expensive in to Zambia (140 USD)

Chobe national park Game drive
Goes without saying ....a game drive of course...take lots of photos...most game drives can be arranged through the lodge you are staying with, and tend to be quite expensive for foreigners. But it`s so worth it !!If you have hired your own 4x4 even better, but i would advise you take along a guide for the day just incase you get stuck, or lost, and remember there are no gas stations so fill up....the best time to go is at sunrise or late afternoon when the animals are at drinking holes/river.
