There are no fences separating Chobe National Park and town and the animals do not feel the need to stick to Chobe National Park. It is great - you really are at one with the wildlife. However, you should take caution, especially on the outskirts of town... a bad tempered elephant is not to be trifled with and, if one leaves one's car door open, one should not be surprised if one finds a 'visitor' in the back seat... and good luck with that!!! It was something I had not considered as I had the doors open, unloading luggage into my hut... but a man came running and yelling at me he just wanted me to shut my car doors! I had, initially thought he was perhaps mad (or drunk). He probably was thinking 'stupid tourist!'

smugglers collect goods off ferry between Botswana and Zambia, the rush with small boats and load on fuel, wine and food to smuggle into ( It seems) Zimbabwe, nothing seemed dangerous but dont stand on ferry where foodstuffs and parcels are loaded, it gets quite hectic when they dump the stuff into the boats, stand clear , I never at any time felt I was not safe here...it was a unique and wonderful experience!

PLease take some cash as not all places take credit cards.... and those that do take credit cards do not take all credit cards... or ATM not working... so plz take extra cash.
When I was there some poeple had problems with not being able to pay for things or get cash... so dont just rely on your credit card here.

Dont swim in the chobe river...there are many under currents and most of all there are many many crocodiles and hippos. Even when walking along the river banks take care, hippos kill more people each year than any other wild animal, they are beautiful creatures but very protective of their young and their territory...and if walking alone, be sure to tell somebody where you are going and when you expect to be back, and carry a stick to sweep the ground for sleeping snakes....these are normal things for us when walking in the wild.... i do not recommend walking around alone near the river to the novice...in the village it`s perfectly ok but Not near the river...take care
