Okavango trip

by Sajt

When we arrived Sepupa we had nothing to do. The only way to go somewhere in Botswana if you are reach. We were not reach, but the director of our camp saw that and he gave us a little kayak to look around on the Okavango.

San Bushmen

by Nana_Philips

Genetically it has been proven that each and every human on earth can trace their ancestry back to the San people who lived in Southern Africa about 150,000 years ago. Today, the San's way of life and culture is close to extinction through pressures brought on by modern mankind. In some area's (Gudigwa village, Makgadikgadi there are settlements where teh San live. the Bukakhwe San people are indigenous to the Kalahri Desert and the northern fringes of the Okavango Delta. here one can experience thge intimate connection between their cultural heritage and their natural environment. By sharing their culture and knowledge of the bush these people should be able to revive a dying culture and pass on their intricate knowledge of their environment to future generations. An experience which makes a perfect complement to the excellent wild life viewing Botswana has to offer.

Water Safari on the Chobe River

by windsorgirl

I had done several safari drives on land, so it was a unique experience to do one by boat. We saw animals both on shore and in the water. And alot of bird life too.It was especially exciting to see the hippos surfacing from under the water.see my travelogue for more animals.

Chobe National Park

by tini58de

On our way from Namibia to Zimbabwe we had to pass through Botswana - and directly through the Chobe National Park! The most prominent feature of the Chobe National Park is the huge concentration of elephants! It is breathtaking and sometimes frightening to see huge herds of elephants just a few meters away from you! And how wonderful to study their behaviour:one elephant (usually a bull) will act like a "policeman" and behind him all the elephants will cross the road!!!

Cheetahs again

by pmarshuk

These beauties are supremly graceful as they walk thru the grass. It really is amazing how they have come to realise that the safari Land Rovers are not a threat to them and so can be virtually ignored.

Cheetahs

After a bush fire on the plains the grass regrows nice and green, providing great grazing which in turn means ideal hunting grounds for predators. This mother and her son decided they had walked around enough so lay down for a rest and let me get some good pics of them.

Okavango sunsets

by pmarshuk

Having sundowners seems to be a tradition when on safari. The guides will have their favourite spots where there will be either a great sunset or some interesting animals to watch, or both. What could be better than sipping a Gin and Tonic while watching a sunset like thisOne of the great advantages of the delta is that when you are at a point like this there will be at most only one other vehicle with you. Definitely no crowds allowed here.

More Lions

by pmarshuk

Don't they look cute at this age. This pride consisted of half a dozen or so adult females and another 8 recently born cubs. Having that many adults meant that there were always at least a couple of adults around babysitting the cubs while the rest could go hunting for the whole pride.

Okavango Delta from the Air

by windsorgirl

The Okavango Delta is called "Africa's largest and most beautiful oasis". The Okavango River flows from Angola but never reaches the sea. Instead, it empties over the sands of the Kalahari desert creating a unique fresh water delta which is a giant water hole for many of Africa's big game. This blue green wilderness is also home to over 80 species of fish and countless birds. Huge reed beds and stands of papyrus can also be found here.I was lucky to have the opportunity to take a flight above the Okavango Delta. We spotted a herd of water buffalo, giraffe and these elephants. It was a small 4 seater airplane which originated in Maun. The flight was 45 min and cost about $50.

It's all about the Animals!

by kathyceo

The elephants were the most frightening for me, they give a fake charge signal, and since they were so close to begin with, it was very intimidating! The guides were great though, and always knew what to do, and could read the animals behavior.
