Checkpoint

by Sajt

One thing, what I never saw before this checkpoints. On a checkpoint like this you see many policeman and woman. And they stop you. This checkpoints are between regions. Sometimes you just have to show your passport, somethimes you have to empty all your bag.

Getting there though Jo'burg

by GuapitoinMiami

The best way to get to Chobe National Park is via an excursion from your hotel in Victoria Falls. The park is about 2 hours from Vic Falls. To get to Vic Falls, we fly from London to Johannsburgh, South Africa and then connected to land in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. We then booked a

Between Camps you should fly

by Radiomom

Little flights of 20 to 45 minutes, sometimes you have to stop to pick up or let off a passenger or supply, but these little planes are the best way between camps (consider it's a 5 hour drive from Maun to Nxabega for the guy who delivers petrol, over primative roads at best.) I'm not afraid of little planes. I taught my two kids to drive -- now THAT was scary!

Fly into/out of where you want to go.

by Flyboy9MR

There are major highways - and you get a good view of the land, and also get impromptu animal surprises (e.g. Elephant crossings)... but use a plane to get into and out of the area. Fly into Limpopo Valley Airfield for that region. I've also been told, best way is to fly to the Delta. Also, 4x4 would be recommended if you choose to drive... the major highway was fine gravel - not dangerous to drive, but it's not your normal paved highway. Also, not a hassle, but be prepared to go through gates where you have to step in water (preventive measure for cattle disease).

Inner Okavango Delta by plane

by sachara

The easiest and quickest way to visit the Inner Delta is by plane. From Maun it is a 20 minute flight. If you book a camp, transport will be arranged by the camp (road, boat or air).Air transfer (one way) to Odd Ball's Camp was 80 pula (=20 euro).

Mokoro

by Sean1901

There is only one way to get around the delta and that is by mokoro. Nowadays, these are more likely to be made of fibreglass rather than the traditional wood, but it is still a unique and relaxing experience.

Travel by truck

by SirRichard

I visited Botswana by truck, as part of a group tour from CapeTown to Vic Falls. I found it a very apprpriate way to travel around. The roads are good, though few. But there are not many towns and petrol stations around, so hiring your own car might not be a good idea.In the pic you can see the whole group at the top of the truck.

Coming from Namibia

by SirRichard

We entered Botswana from Namibia. At the border (northwest corner of the country) we had to wait nearly 5 hours, because our group didn't have the right papers. It was just a question of 1 paper that was missing, but bureaucracy in Africa is deadly slow, so if you are caught in a trap like this, bring a thick book or a discman with enough batteries... at the end all was solved with a simple FAX!!!!In the pic you can see me at the border, with a gorgeous elephant skull, the size of me almost...

Tiny plane over the Delta

by pmarshuk

The main means of getting around the Delta seems to be by small planes out of Maun. The views you get as you fly at low altitiude gives you a toatally different perspective of just what it's really like. On the ground you are often in forest or in channels of Papyrus, from above there seems to be a lot more water. By UK standards it is also very cheap to charter a plane to take you around, and you will usually find someone who will share the cost with you.
