We took Air Burkina from Nouakchott, Mauritania. A fair flight, nothing extraordinary. We safely arrived at "Aeroport International de Ougadougou"

The taxi drivers in Ouaga are hit and miss. Some will quote ridiculous prices when they see a white face, sometimes 10X the going rate. When you get these guys, slam the door in their face and send them on their way. Some drivers, usually the older ones, are reasonable and friendly.

Burkina Faso is a very nice country, but not all roads are tarmacked (bituminized). So that it is very difficult to move without vehicle adapted to conditions.
Before leaving for Burkina Faso we have already reserved a villa in Ouagadougou (The villa names "LaTranquillité"). The villa also rents air-conditioned vehicles 4x4 for only 45 000-fr CFA /day for tips outside from Ouagadougou. Its important that the car is air-conditioned, because the temprature can reach 35° to 40°. It´s a very hot country.
We left France with Air Burkina (aprox. for 500€/person) and we went down to Ouagadougou.
In Ouagadougou, we then go to Banfora, Bobo Dioulasso, Pô, Nazinga, Leo and Gorom Gorum by 4x4. It was very interesting.
I recommend You to rent a vehicle when You are in Burkina Faso.

Before making our trip to Burkina Faso, we have rent a villa in Ouagadougou (The villa names Villa "LaTranquillité" in the secteur 28). The villa also rent out air-conditioned cars (4x4 with 7 sits) for only 45000 F CFA (69€) for our trips outside of Ouagadougou.
Its very important to have air-conditioned car in Burina Faso. It´s a very hot country.
We travel form Paris to Ouagadougou with "Air-Burkina" (the air line of Burkina Faso) for only ~500€.
Then we travel inside the country Burlina Faso by car (4x4) from Ouagadougou to Pô, Tiébélé, Zécco and Guelwongo (Border to Ghana) and to the Nazinga-park. Then to Bobo, banfora, Gaoua and then to Gorom Gorom in the north of the country.
I recomand you to rent a car in Ouagadougou for your trips.

Very convenient bus station serving the whole country and abroad (Mali, Niger?)
Take a taxi: it?s quite far away from the centre.
Buses of the STMB (Soci?t? de Transport Mixte Bangrin) are in a rather good condition (eventhough the clim is usually not working) and the timing is OK.
Be there in advance to be sure you get a place.
Air conditioned waiting room.

Border crossing in West Africa, in general, are not so bad, compared to what you hear about Central Africa. However, found it very frustrating waiting for customs duty officials to go through all their searches, holding up all the public transport buses at the border. I simply walked off the bus and made my across the border on foot and caught another ride with an NGO vehicle to get myself to the capital. I know they say don't hitchhike anywhere but its common in West Africa and relatively safe. I was a single female.

It’s quite hard to really enjoy a city after two weeks spent in the so quiet Dogon Country… At least for me: I’m already missing “my” baobabs and cliffs. Anyway, I hardly appreciate cities, here or......

The city of the motorbikes and bicycles

Ouagadougou fights for being a modern city, with an African air that I liked very much. It's calmer than it's neighbourg Bamako

Ouagadougou, Burkina's Dusty Capital

Thankfully called Ouaga(wa-ga) for short, this city is surprisingly modern. Although not packed with must do activities, there is plenty of good food and crafts shopping. The streets are quite...
