The Broadway: Excellent seafood excellent music

The Broadway is somewhat of an institution located in one of the posher areas of Douala.

One section of it is a restaurant which does seafood so great even Tony the tiger would be speechless, in the other section of the restaurant is a bar with a large stage at one end and an upstairs viewing platform looking down onto the people below, local musicians come and sing in a kind of cabaret performance, the atmosphere is absolutely fantastic and you can quite happily while the hours away there, on the plus side its frequented by KLM aircrews too, so the views can be outstanding.......

Favorite Dish: Excellent Seafood, don't have to go far to go to the jazz club........

    Broadway : restaurant, bar, cabaret

Confidential area, smooth and for friends who know that it exists. Very good Music Band will play for you. People will take care of you, and any food is perfect. You will eat quietly, on chairs or sofa. Meat, Fish, ... european good cooking. Feel like in your private place where anybody know each other. You can have a drink at the Bar before, or play pool after, or enjoy the cabaret area with very good music and participative ambiance. Feel good, and no need to change place for enjoy your evening and night, ... up to ... very late.

Favorite Dish: I very often eat ... different foods here. Boeuf Bourguignon, Blanquette de Veau, Côte de Boeuf grillée, Grilled Fish or Meat, Gambas à l'Espagnole, ... with good wine (not expensive), and never forget Crêpes Flambées or Profiterôles. So many good things.

    Okinawa: Okinawa

I am always a little more than leery about eating sushi in the third world and I thought the sight of Africans wearing kimonos was a bit odd…but Okinawa proved to have pretty good sushi as well as other Japanese specialties.

The German Seamen's Mission in Douala...

Another great meal in Douala…the German Seamen’s mission serves up grilled sausages and other meats each night in the open-air courtyard of the mission and Wednesday nights they even have potato salad…but then again nothing goes better with the grilled foodstuffs than an ice cold pint of “33.”

    Mediterranee Restaurant: Mediterranee Restaurant

    by Cabana_Boy Written Nov 6, 2004

The Medi offers up pretty good grub for cheap, cheap…nice pasta dishes, good pizzas and excellent salads (love those Cameroon tomatoes) top the menu and it’s hard to beat the covered open-air patio. With all overhead fans blowing air down on you, one might even forget they are sitting just six degrees north of the equator…

Favorite Dish: The Salad Greque...with a healthy serving of tomatoes dripping in olive oil and oregano, this salad is hard to beat in Douala....

    The Colonial: The Colonial

    by Cabana_Boy Written Nov 3, 2004

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Colonial is an open air restaurant with set behind an old "colonial" facade....the place serves up surf and turf with a local flare with excellent views of the Western sky over the Atlantic Ocean and the fishmen in their dugout canoes on the Wouri River...

Favorite Dish: The seafood is pretty good, the portions of the Captaine are large and meaty...the Sole is a bit thin, but tasty all the same....naturally, these dishes are washed down with some "33".....I just hope the catch doesn't come from the Wouri River.....

    Restaurant Chinois in Douala

Wherever you are in the world, you can always find a Chinese restaurant... Restaurant Chinois was "alright" and that's to say it was nothing special. The food was what you would expect to see in a Chinese restaurant and the ambience was a little better than most places in Douala... Perhaps the most interesting thing about Restaurant Chinois is the salute you get from the guards in front of the place.

    La Cigale: La Cigale

    by Cabana_Boy Updated Jul 23, 2003

    La Cigale in Douala

This was one of my favorite restaurants in Douala. La Cigale is an excellent restaurant featuring local dishes (mostly locally caught seafood and steaks and fresh vegatables like those juicy tomatoes). There is a great bar in the front half of the joint with a stage featuring live music nightly. In the back room, well dressed waiters with a great sense of humor serve up the tasty fittles late into the night...

Favorite Dish: Get the surf and turf...the steaks were tender, juicy and full of favor and the local prawns are huge and sassed up with the right amount of garlic and butter...wash it all down with a nice South African red wine...
