This is the most reliable transport agency who connects the Eastern province with the rest of Cameroon.
You'll find the depot in the city centre. Try to buy your tickets a day in advance.

  • No internet but portable phones work

    Yokadouma Warnings and Dangers

When you arrive in Yoka, as they call it over here, you don’t find any internet facilities.Phones will work as long as the power plant is working. Portable phones work and sending messages or contacting the home front isn’t a problem.

  • Shopping

    Yokadouma What to Pack

Yokadouma is the only relatively large city where you can buy your provision for your jungle trips in the rainforests of the eastern province. Prices are a bit more expensive than in all the other parts of the country, this because of the transportation costs. You can find almost everything around here, except camping gear or decent pharmacies.

  • Bushmeat restaurants

    Yokadouma Restaurants

Yokadouma is located in the South-eastern corner of Cameroon and far away from civilization. The local restaurants very often serve bush meat, it is a cheap source of proteins and the locals like it a lot. There are other alternatives to eat, it is a lucrative business and it doesn’t support the sustainable protection of the forest inhabitants.

At Sanaga-Yong, near the small city of Bélabo, the US based NGO, In Defense of Animals, operates a shelter for chimpanzees that have been rescued from poachers or from being kept illegally. It's an impressive facility, where the chimps, although caged, are kept in very large fenced enclosures with a very natural environment that gives them room to roam. Visiting the facility provides a chance to not only see the good work that IDA is doing, but see the chimps in something like a natural habitat. The facility contains an educational center that visitors can peruse, and tours are available at specific times, which are unfortunately not listed on the organization's web site, but could probably be obtained by e-mail from the home office in the US.
The only difficulty with visiting the Center is reaching it. Transportation to Bélabo is available by a good paved road or by train, but unless you have your own vehicle, you would need to hire a taxi for the 30-40 minute drive to the site, as I was told that bush taxis pass only intermittently.
