In January, 2010, a friend and I visited Barombi Mbo, a crater lake near Kumba. The lake is only a couple of miles from the center of town and is easily accessible. Unless you have a four wheel drive, however, you'll need to leave your vehicle at the entrance and walk the half mile of so on the very poor road to the lake. The lake is indeed beautiful, and there is an aging and poorly maintained shelter with picnic tables. Several local people were enjoying what looked to be a refreshing swim while we were there, The area is a nature reserve, but there is a village on the other side of the lake, which can be reached by dugout canoe or a walking train that I was told takes about an hour.
