Cape Verde Escudos
The official currency of Cape Verde is the Cape Verde Escudo (CVE).The CVE is pegged against the Euro at a rate of 1 Euro = 110 CVE and is a closed currency, meaning that it can only be obtained inside Cape Verde and shouldn't be taken out of the country.The CVE consists of the following denominations:Coins: 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 CVENotes: 200, 500, 1000, 2000, 2500 and 5000 CVEFrom a practical point of view, Escudos are fairly easy to obtain on the island of Boa Vista. I changed 30 Euros worth (receiving 3,300 CVE, as per the official pegged rate) at the reception desk of the Riu Touareg hotel.
