Strela Beer

by ValbyDK

The most popular beer in Cape Verde is the Strela beer. It has since 2006 been produced by the Sociedade Cabo-verdiana de Cerveja e Refrigerantes (SCCR).Strela comes in three types: Pilsner, Dark (Munich Dunkel), and a strong Bock beer (8%). I liked the Strela beer very much – but no, I didn’t drink all the beers you see in the photo…

by cachaseiro

Mindelo is the cultural center of Cape Verde. The barefooted diva, Cesaria Evora comes from there and so does many other musicians. One night i even bumped in to senegalese singer, Yussou n'dour in a local cafe while i was ther and the place do in general have a good artist vibe.

TAKE A VIRTUAL TOURIST WITH YOU!

by DAO

Cape Verde is a far trek to a beach island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. What better way to visit here than to take another member of VT along with you! The first photo shows my friend and wonder VA (Virtual Attendee) - Gail. I thought she looked a bit pale one day in my rucksack so I took her down to the glorious golden beach in Santa Maria. Gail is known as Glo39 here on VT and was my Virtual Attendee at the VT Euromeet in Karlsruhe, Germany. She asked if she could travel with me and she has been a fabulous travelling companion. She is always ready to go on an adventure with me, I don’t have to pay for another airline seat for her and she is even water resistant (after some ‘plastic’ surgery). What a woman! If you would like a VA then go to a VT Meeting and take your Virtual (Tourist) friends with you!!!

Nice People

by eetrapnoel

As stated by others, the people are very friendly. I was a little dissapointed by the beaches near the Tropico hotel, very littered and dirty. Lots of stray dogs also, no danger though. This place is a bit underdeveloped, so dont expect the same things as in a jet-set vacation spot. A very unique place.

Music in the air

by sachara

The capverdian music, we like it!One of the reasons for us to come to Cape Verde. You feel and hear the music in the air. There are three different kinds of capeverdian music; the funana, the morna and the coladera. Our favourite is the morna. One of the most famous singers of the morna is Cesaria Evora. We visit her home town Mindelo. There we hear that our planned departure from Cape Verde was too early... Cesaria Evora should just return to Mindelo one week later and sing in one of the popular music-café's in Mindelo. Now we listen to her cd's at home. Cape Verde the year round. At 26th october 2005 finally we managed to visit a concert of Cesaria Evora in the Netherlands. It was really great !

Have an open mind

by Gido

Cape Verde's beauty is in its people. You'll find the most beautiful mixtures of races and colours. What Europeans would perceive as black people sometimes have green eyes and blond hair. And, more important, all 'cabo's' are very friendly, welcoming and party-minded.

A great day in Cape verde Islands

by globetrott

It was a great weather that day, bright sunshine, but some sort of a bad weather front with very dark clouds was coming closer and closer......and it was a perfect day to take photographs against the sun, with the totally smooth sea glittering in the sun, while our small tenderboats made the transport of passengers and crew between our cruiseship M/S Vistafjord and the small port on Cape Verde.

A wild desert island

by Joan58

When you arrive at Cape verde, you'll land at Espargos, on the Ilha do Sal, where is the international airport. You'll can reach the other islands by little planes. From Ilha do Sal you can go to Boavista by boat, but the voyage is about three hours long. I've been only at Ilha do Sal, so in my Cape Verde pages I'll describe you the other islands with informations I took on the spot. Obsiouvly all the pictures refer to Ilha do Sal. When we decided to go on holiday to Cape Verde I was not so thrilled about our choice. I known we were going to a place very different from those we use to go, like the Caribbean. No palmtrees and vegetation, no towns to visit, no a calm sea, just a windswept desert island with some little village. Here the ocean is cold and rough so you can't swim and have fun. Actually my informations were right, but when I arrived...I changed my mind!! Now I would like to...

Boavista

by ginguba

The Boavista island has so much to see!! one of my fondeste memories was almost getting lost, almost by night fall in the middle of the sand dunes, near a beach (the sta maria) that has a scary ship sunk there! a bit scary, but very funny to remember

Take money!

by ginguba

In the island of Sal you have 2 banks (for what i know) and one cashpoint, but cannot be used by foreigner accounts. In Boavista island you only have one bank opened untill 3pm, where you can get money at the balcony with your visa card (only!). The only way to get around there is with money on your pocket, there's no such thing as visa in shops, hotels or restaurants. neither travelcards.

A: Mindelo is in my opinion the most attractive town in Cape Verde. Nice town by the sea with colonial buildings and a pretty decent local nightlife.
