Cape Verde is an island nation...
by GDS1230
Cape Verde is an island nation 400 miles off the west coast of Africa. Composed of 10 main islands and several small islets, the country covers only 1,500 sq. mi. of land (about the size of Long Island and New York City combined) and over 33,000 sq. mi. of territorial sea. The roughly 400,000 people of the islands are the descendents of the Portuguese colonizers of the islands and the African slaves they brought over from the mainland for several hundred years.Cape Verde is NOT a highly developed tourist driven island country full of package tourists and highrise hotels...if you are looking for that then you will be disappointed. Go to the Canary Islands instead.Cape Verde is NOT your stereotypical tropical island paradise with lush vegetation and palm-tree lined beaches...if you want that go to Hawaii, Tahiti, Puerto Rico or almost anywhere else...Cape Verde IS an amazing, small country...
