 bambino36 Says:  Mindelo is the main town in the island. In opposition to the lack of "life" around the island, Mindelo is a very vibrant town. Nice restaurants where lobster is a "must eat" dish and very unexpensive too. Even the nightlife is very surprising. 

 bambino36 Says:  The Cape Verde islands are of volcanic origin and São Vicente is one of the most arid. The lack of vegetation is impressive and only some tiny spots in the island have a few trees and bushes. 

 Gido Says:  Near Calhau you find the Praia Grande, a very big and empty beach which comes alive in weekends only. You can have it to yourself the rest of the time. Mind the everpresent and lethal currents and you'll have a great time. 

 bambino36 Says:  It was erected in order to memorize the first flight across the Southern Atlantic in 1922. The portuguese naval pilots Gago Coutinho and Sacadura Cabral made a stop in São Vicente on their difficult way from Lisbon to Rio de Janeiro. 

 brancolini Says:  Every year, in August, this beautiful beach hosts a great music festival, with some of the greatest names in the world. From african traditional music to electronic or hiphop, you will find all.People often stay to sleep at the beach and the atmosphere is incredible 

 Gido Says:  A very nice place to have the traditional cachupa breakfast and coffee/juice, continental breakfast and sandwiches are also served. Cachupa!
