After dinner, you can't miss a walk at the Pracinha (the central square).
Lots of people (tourists, but mainly locals) just walk around it, mostly in one direction. There are also esplanades where you can take a coffee or a drink.

Café Lisboa is the spot where everyone meets. A long-lasting fame has seduced great travelman, musicians, philosofers and even politicians.
Foreign people who live in Mindelo often hang out there.

Favorite Dish: Closest coffee to the portuguese one, but still far away...

Should you ever get homesick, you can always go to this disco. Although you can listen to some african dance music, it's mostly western music. Nevertheless, the atmosphere is not like in western discos. People act differently... Take a look

Inter'Art is both an artist atelier and a nightclub. Just outside Mindelo, you will find a great atmosphere, live music, and very nice people to meet. This is a stop for local artists and you will have a great time.

    Dress Code: None, please!

No San Miguel on Saõ Vicente is not only an airport and a long beach : it is a living city and its people sometime need to go to Mindelo. From the airport, instead of taking a Taxi, either wait for a taxi-minibus (aluguer) coming from the ocean's-side or walk to San Miguel where you could wait for one in a small restaurant. The price is approximately 5 times less than taxis ~90ECV). You will have more chances to catch one if you arrive in the morning to San Miguel.

Tchâle Figueira is Cape Verde's best known artist. He is a painter, sculptor, musician and writer. He has a his atelier in Mindelo at the beachfront (ask anyone for directions, he's very well known). Here you see some of his artwork exposed and you may also have the chance to chat with the artist who's multiligual (has lived in Switzerland for many years). He's certainly someone with a strong opinion and an interesting life story. His colorful art is accessible even to someone who's less of an art background. In case you speak Portuguese you might also want to buy one of his novels (e.g. Solitário). They are exclusively available in Mindelo bookshops. In 2006 Tchâle also appeared as a musician at the Baia das Gatas festival.
