Cape Verde Off The Beaten Path

  • Santo Antao

Few visitors make it to santo Antao, but it's a must if you ask me.the island is more green than the rest of the country and has more mountains.it´s really good for hiking and because the mountains makes it a little less accesible, it´s also less touristy and i found it to be the friendliest island in cape Verde.

If you have time it's better to walk, you get to see things that you skip driving. I rent a jeep 3 days and made 100 km a day in a 600km2 island, and felt insatisfied.

  • Feel the nature

Curral Velho is a deserted village. It's set on a spectacular place, just near a beautifull beach, although quite windy, and with a wild sea! There used to be a stream passing through and that would give the water they needed, but because doens't rain very often, the stream dried out 30 years or so ago, and so people had to leave they're houses....

Well, that's quite difficult. I would say whole Cape Verde is off the beaten path! There are only a very few tourists visiting the islands. If you leave Sal you won't see lot's of tourists. Most of them will be probably on Santo Antao - but this is the most beautiful island.pic shows: clouds moving at the edge of Cova Crater on Santo Antao
