The island of Santiago has lots of unexplored and untouched coastline, even just outside Praia there are long streches of completely deserted coves and beaches. Sadly the sand has been taken from most of the beaches on this island to be used in construction - not a good idea but its cheap... I wouldn't recommend going swimming unless it's a vey calm day though, the currents are extremely strong.
