in Tarrafal (north of Sao Tiago island) with the small restaurant of Bonanca owned by a Spanish couple..very friendly and excellent foodtortilla espanhola, empanada gallega, ensalada catalana, atum a canaria, ensalada de peixe, paella valencia in general: seafood ---excellent top quality..try all the different kind of gambas (crevettes) langostas,octopus (lula,) and try percebes (seafingers)but also meat and chicken is good and vegeterian food is available
there are many good restaurants.I liked very much 'Matteo'and'chicos' becouse of the nice music<<<<<you can eat with 15000 italian £(about 7 dollars)but the hotels are very expensive:a bottle of water is about 3 dollars,but you can buy water bottles to a local Shop for 1 dollar. cachupa,grilled fish,vegetable
All restaurants are good, but don't expect to be served quickly. Santa Maria : Have a coffe at the Morabezza terraceHave a tchatt at the bar squeeze.Email from the Windpub ( open from 9pm).enjoy the music in the two restaurants from the main road.Mindelo : Cheep and good family atmosphere at Roma.Have a drink at the café kiosk on the Amilcar Cabral Place in the evening.Restaurant Chavou d'Oro for living a moment 100 years ago.To eat a correct steak : café Musique, and for the concerts on week ends too !To feel the life of inhabitants : bar royal. Casual, slow service (but that's all over), the fish carpaccio is great. Ask for some extra bread and beers! Add lots o lemon. Make sure they cook it freshly

A very good time in this restaurant, in the beach, with African food and dancing.Nobody should miss it I don't remenber the dish we had but it was very good.
You can eat lobster very cheep, but they have another great meals
Local foods to try:Bife de atum (tuna, marinated in vinegar and cooked in spices)Bacalhau (dried cod)Cachupa (maize and beans)
which means turtle in italian (i should think) is another reaturant by the beach, like a big tent, run by italians that mix local dishes with italian recepies. It's quite nice!
There's not much offer to eat out, and you might have meals at your hotel, but you can try the restaurant from Pousada Boavista, the food is really nice.

A: Mindelo is in my opinion the most attractive town in Cape Verde. Nice town by the sea with colonial buildings and a pretty decent local nightlife.
