Well, when you go to pirata and other kind of night clubs here in Santa Maria the tourists pay another entrance fee and the drinks are much more expensive, compare if you live there or are a local. Much more. Try to avoid that and lie, and say that you work hereere with something. I would suggest you to say that you are in the tourism business or construction. More the construction, because they build a lot here.

If you go to the dancing place Pirata, you have to know that first of all that most of the domestic girls there are looking for your money. You do what you want of course, but I would not recommend it. You never know what deseases you can get from them.

Stayed at a nice hotel The Morabeza but if you have a sunbed on the front deck close to the beach path beware of locals wondering in. They did when we were there and were looking to steal from the sunbeds etc. Even though the security chased them they hid under the surf centre opposite and then in the hotel garden all afternoon waiting.

The Pirata night club charges a huge premium for drinks for tourists. You are issued with a slip and must keep it to the end of the evening. Woe betide you if you lose it as the Italian owners of this club sem to be very agressive drives a ganster car - Hummer - and have a very large dog. The place is gloomy and largely populated with local woman and men, bioth of whom appear to be intent on scrounging free drinks - free for them that is but very expensive for you. Both sexes also seem keen to earn money for their bodies.
Not a place to take your daughter.
