Santa Maria do Sal is a very small and modest village. There are no good shops, so if you are after shopping, forget it! You can though buy some local crafts, necklaces, bracelets there. Many people from senegal also go to the beach and try to sell them.
The best place where you can go shopping is in Santa Maria, on the Ilha do Sal. Santa Maria is the most tourist place, so you'll find many things to buy. Here there are many shops and a little open market. The open market is full of wood carvings, paintings, African masks, batiks, bongos and necklaces, bracelets...and it is also full of people...as you can see in the picture. Bargain over the price. Santa Maria is the most expensive place of Cape Verde, but here you can find a fine range of goods.
These are not shops, these are expert Account Managers running the beach up & doen the whole day trying to sell you some local handcrafts :-)Actually sometimes u think u prefer not to have these guys but if u realize the condition they live u can easily understand why they "disturb" you. Local handcrafts made of wood, turtles, hyppos, neck chain ... Always bargain
In Rabil there's a working pottery. You can take some souvenirs there. The hotel have the same pieces but but it's nicer to visit the pottery. Insignificant in the small pieces.

A: Mindelo is in my opinion the most attractive town in Cape Verde. Nice town by the sea with colonial buildings and a pretty decent local nightlife.
