Santa Monica Beach

by ginguba

A beach in the island of Boavista. somone told me is named after the california beach, because of it's resemblance. but the only thing i can imagine being alike is the size, cause this beach is fabulous, really big, and you hardly see anyone there! there's nothing there but the beach and some stony kind of desert.... and goats. One of the most beautifull beaches i've seen! Such a clear water!!

Must 'hear' activity!!!

by ginguba

Great Music!!! The mix of various cultures gave way to traditional styles such as the mornas, the funana, the coladeira... They have a rich musical tradition. Cesária Évora (pic) is maybe the cape verdean singer with a bigger internatinal projection. She's strongly appreciated in portugal.

Downtown strolling

by mauro_pd

Just visit downtown in Boavista ... you can feel that the big revolution is slowly coming; new villas, new buildings, new shops ... it's still far away from becoming a new "Rimini" but this is the trend ... in the meanwhile enjoy these pix !!!!!!!!!

You must visit Tarrafal in São Tiago Island (in this photo...), either for diving either for swimming or sunbathing...Its the best beach, either because of the thin white sand, either because of the warm waters... Some islands only have black sand because of vulcanism but Tarrafal its Paradise...

There isn't much to do in the island (Sal), except for the water sports. You may rent a jeep for a day and visit the island. There's an old salt-pan in the Island and the famous 'Sitio da Buracona' which in the summer becomes a natural pool. You can also rent a bicycle if it's not too windy.

Cabo Verde is the right place for sport:swimming, surfing, running, riding bike, playing volley ball and beach football and so on.In Sal there is a desert view and so you can use the typical desert motorbike (you can rent one when arrived for a good price to Simona And Luçian:they can also came with you around the isle.I assure they are wanderful guides and nice friends! Tel934762.)Sal Isle is a paradise:that's the only reason to relax and do what you like there.

There is not much to do on Sal, you only come here and after two days you realize you know your way around and you have seen everything. What is this everything? I recommend trip to Palmeira - besides little different lifestyle you will see also crab-farm, a little factory for transformation of sea water to sweet water, nice beach and bunch of dogs (like anywhere else in this republic). On the picture: Blue Crab mating

If you find yourself on one of the 'flat', sandy islands of the archipelago, don't just go to the beach...take some time to explore the fascinating desert-like interior of some of the islands...Check out this desert oasis on the Ilha da Boa Vista.

by GDS1230

Explore the beautiful towns that are the legacy of the Portuguese, who colonized and inhabited these islands for 500 years before independence in 1975. The capital city of Praia and the port city of Mindelo are the largest in the archipelago and have a variety of dining, nightlife and shopping experiences available.

Surprising to many people (I don't know why), Cape Verde has a plethora of outdoor and sea activities to take part in. (They are islands after all). In fact, Cape Verde is known as one of the best places in the world to go windsufing and surfing and has decent diving sites too.

A: Mindelo is in my opinion the most attractive town in Cape Verde. Nice town by the sea with colonial buildings and a pretty decent local nightlife.
