Fauna & Flora

Go for the Tai rainforest and you'll see Chimps within a few steps.Tai National Park is situated in the western part of Cote d'Ivoire, close to the Liberian frontier. Classified as a protected area since 1926, the region was declared a National Park in 1972 by the Ivorian government. The game reserve "Reserve de Faune du N'Zo", bordering the National Park to the north, is under joint management with the Tai National Park. Today, both areas are still covered with evergreen rainforest..

My Favourite Beach

by canuckmike

This is my favourite beach. Beautiful sand, beautiful water, beautiful rocks, beautiful forests just beautiful everything. I spen hours body surfing here and it was just amazing. I camped on the beach not too far away from a crocodile pond. I don't remember the exact location but it was just west of the town of Sassandra and the owner of the place was a Frenchman named Maxim.

Activities Parc du Banco in Abidjan is a great place for walking. You can trek through virgin rainforest in Taï National Park, located in the south-western corner of the country. The hiking is good on tall Mt Tonkoui and steep La Dent de Man in the central-western Man region. The best coastal areas lie west of Abidjan. Grand-Lahou is one of the best spots in the country for surfing. There are also big waves further west at Plage Le Bivouac in Sassandra; the swimming is better at adjacent Poly-Plage. The country's best beaches for sun worshipping are in Grand-Béréby, a fishing village 340km (210mi) west of Abidjan near the Liberian border. Events One of Côte d'Ivoire's most famous festivals is the Fêtes des Masques (Festival of Masks), which takes place in villages in the Man region each February. Another important event is carnival in Bouaké each March. If you're here in April, don't...

Go visit a more primitive village outside of the cities. I visited the Palaka tribal village, which is outside of Sefonakaha (close to the border of Mali). As an American, it was an 'eye opener' to realize that there are so many people maintaining their daily lives in the most primitive of ways.

Yes, this is a real termite hill. Whoever made the statement that things are bigger in Texas obviously hasn't been in Africa!!
