Comoë Park, brousse-kitchen

by sachara

in our camp we had a nice dinner from our brousse-kitchen and we went to bed early.Lucky us, we didn´t see any lights or hear any gunfire from poachers that night. The next morning we had to make a long walk (20 KM or maybe more) to the nrth gate, whre we could find help.

Comoë Park, an unexpected camp

by sachara

Allthough it was forbidden to stay in the camp overnight, we made our camp on the track. We used campfires and oil lamps to keep the animals at a distance during the night. Our guide told us, that not the animals, but the armed poachers would be the most dangerous.

Comoë Park, stuck in the mud... for days

by sachara

At the track back to the north gate, we had to pass again the place of our problems that morning and ..... yes, we stuck in the mud again and couldn't get out this time without external help.Allthough it was forbidden to spent the night in the park, we had no choice and had to stay....

Comoë Park, track to the river.

by sachara

At noon we had only drove 50 KM and still 120 KM to go to the south gate of the park. So we had to make the decision to return back to the north, to Kafolo. Our guide showed us a short-cut to Kafolo, by taking a track to the west. Here we had to pass the Comoë River.

Comoë Park, problems on the track

by sachara

Early in the morning we entered the Park and headed south for a ten hours ride.In the morning we had the first problems on the track. Our truck stuck in the mud.It took a lot of time, but we succeeded to come out.

Boundiali, market

by sachara

In the north of Cote d' Ivoire is Boundiali, a Senoufo town in the heart of the country's cottonbelt. In Boundiali is a colourfull market.I did enjoy walking around on this market, like I do at every African market.

Eboe, stay at the mission

by sachara

Because of the forest in the south-east we couldn't find a place to camp at the roadside. We took a small road to the south and found Eboe, a small village. The mayor gave us permission to camp behind the mission with a childbirth-clinic. The women of the clinic came to look at us and were very interested in everything.

Grand Bassam

by sachara

The narrow strip between the lagoon and the ocean, the Old Town, is the place where the French colonist set up their capital, separated from the locals at the other side of the lagoon. In 1893 was Grand Bassam declared the capital of the french colony, but six years later a yellow fever epidemic broke out and the French left for Bingerville. Now you will find only the remnants of that bygone era. Nowadays the people of Abidjan come to this place for the sun and the beach.

Yamoussoukro, Presidential Palace

by sachara

In 1983 became Yamoussoukro the official capital of Cote d' Ivoire. From the 60s Houphouët-Boigny began spending huge amounts of money in his native village with rather bizarre results.....The Presidential Palace can only been seen from a distance. Around the huge walled palace are ponds with crocodiles for protection.....

Comoë National Park

by sachara

The Comoë National Park is in the north-east corner of Cote D'Ivoire. This park is the largest game park in West Africa. In the park you can see savannah, grassland and forest. One of the most popular tracks -from Kafolo in the north-west alongside the Comoë River to the south- takes a full day till 10 hours. We had the intention to take this track, but because the track was to narrow for the wheels of our truck we did'nt make it.The only animal we saw in the north-west was a snake.
