by Kurtdhis

The premier game park in the Côte d'Ivoire is the Parc National de la Comoe, located in the elevated savanna and forest in the northeast. Comoe occupies over 4,300 square miles (11,00 sq. km.) and is home to a variety of big game animals (lions, elephants, hippos) as well as many species of birds.

Social ProfileFood & Drink:...

Social ProfileFood & Drink: Abidjan and other centres have restaurants serving French, Italian, Caribbean, Lebanese and Vietnamese food. There is a growing number of African restaurants catering for foreigners. Traditional dishes are kedjenou (chicken cooked with different vegetables and sealed in banana leaves), n'voufou (mashed bananas or yam mixed with palm oil and served with aubergine sauce) and attieké (cassava dish). The best area for spicy African food is the Treichville district of Abidjan. The blue pages of the Abidjan telephone book have a special restaurant section. There are no restrictions on drinking.Nightlife: There are nightclubs in most major centres. Abidjan is the most lively area with its hotels and lagoon-side tourist resorts. There are also theatres, casinos and bars. Traditional entertainment is offered in some hotels.Shopping: In the markets, hard bargaining is...

Yamousoukro.

Former capital of Cote d'Ivoire an enormous amount of money was spent in order to turn it into an international style city. This failed somehow and it was pretty deserted when I went there apart from the huge buidlings scattered around the place. Note that there was very little vegetation growing and no shade provided by trees. I managed to enter some of the government buildings by passing a small amount of money to the guard. In theory you needed some official letter to enter. In practice some gentle persuasion can work. I was travelling with an Ivoirian so this may have helped things.

Religious Mansions

by canuckmike

Behind the Basilique de Notre Dame de la Paix are two mansions. One is meant for the pope for his visits (I believe he only visited once) and the other is for the 4 priests that work there.

South-east of Ivory Coast: forest

The road from Abidjan to the Ghanaian border looks very green. Most of the time you are driving in the thick rainforest. That's why we couldn't find any place to camp along the road.

Grand Bassam, lagoon

by sachara

The Ebrie lagoon divides Gran Bassam in Ancien Bassam (the former French colony) at a small strip at the ocean and Nouveau Bassam at the mainland.

Abidjan, mixture of architecture

by sachara

Between the modern skyscrapers in the citycentre of Abidjan, you see also buildings of another size and form. These buildings looked more like the buildings, I was used to in the African towns.

Abidjan,at the coast

by sachara

After passing the town, we reached at least the ocean at the eastside of Abidjan. Here we found a nice campground with bar and restaurant, where we could put our tents in the shade of the palmtrees.

Kids at the lunchstop

by sachara

As everywhere in Cote d´Ivoire there were a lot of kids around. They were very curious about those white people, visiting a bar in their village or town. They were very enthusiastic.
