There are no official taxis. Every taxi is just a private car waiting for customers. Never take a "taxi" at the airport. It may bring you elsewhere and the chance of loosing everything is high. To reassure: just wait half an hour in the lobby of one of the big hotels. No one will call for a taxi, everyone will be picked up by a friend or another reliable person he/she called for.
I once took a taxi (type "collectivo" together with a congolese friend in day time. No problem: you just tell the place you want to go and the taxidriver takes the best tour to serve all his clients. The price is very fine.

Not knowing how to bribe when it becomes the last way out! It's a trap of a very different kind.......
It actually took some time until it dawned upon me what was meant by 'matabich' a slang for bribe.

I was peacefully walking very near the memling hotel,when a guy came to me and said:'heey how are you,do you recognize me? I am in charge of your luggage at the hotel;I can arrange a quick check in for you at the airport if you pay me a drink';
in fact,this guy was in charge of nothing,he just saw a white guy in the street and thought I would be scared to loose my luggage

many people will recognize you in the street ,saying:hello,how are you?
THEY ONLY WANT YOUR MONEY,and they have never seen you before;remember that an honest african will never speak to an european in the street!
gentlemen,be very careful with women,as I heard terrible stories;some young ladies come to speak to you in a restaurant or a bar,they begin to do to you some naughty things like touching(or worse under the table) your ####,then they say:now give me 100 $!!they won't give up until you pay!!
