  • One of the best

    Lubumbashi Restaurants

La Bouchere only opened recently and is located where the Artiste was down the back of La Plage. Excellent Ambience (even when quiet) great service, good choice nice little bar and right beside the lake. South African influence. I cannot fault it to date. All good so far the Prawn Avacodo Cocktail is to die for.

  • Quadbiking in the park

    Lubumbashi Things to Do

Mayombo Park in the northern outskirts of Lubumbashi is a mini-safari park with some herbivores freely roaming around the grasslands, although some baboons are tied up because of mischievousness. You can hire a quadbike and whizz around the place or take a leisurely trip around on a jeep. There is a large children's playground section too. It's a...

  • Caf' Conc' top class in Kinshasa

    Kinshasa Restaurants

If you want to remember gastronomy when you are living a long time in Africa, this restaurant is perfect. When you are inside, you don't remember you are in Africa. Menu is not very extended but in few dishes you taste the best of the French new cuisine, all ingredients being imported. Take the menu trilogy: you choose three plates with each time...

  • Never use HEWA BORA

    Kinshasa Transportation

The worse company ever. Not allowed to land in Europe any longer. If you have to travel to and fro Kinshasa or Lubumbashi, never use Hewa Bora, you might never arrive alive. Planes are not maintained, they crashes. Once I had to lose two days in Mbuji-Mayi because the plane had a problem and had to land in emmergency. It is cheaper and safer to use...

    Uvira Things to Do

As in other countries around the world the river through the town is the cenral hype of activity. The river in Uvira was used on one side of the bridge as car wash, with huge trucks been driven right to the edge of the river and been washed. Whereas on the otherside women washed their laundry and kids played in the water.

Parc National de Virunga

  • YOUR CAMERA IS GOING TO GET WET

Parc National de Virunga Warnings and Dangers

The park is a natural rain forest near the Equator. That means it rains all year long. In fact they average 1975mm (77.7 inches or 6.5 feet) of rain! If you look closely at these photos you will see the rain. I took 3 cameras and used 2. Both were damaged to some extent. One dried up after a few days and works fine now. The other has zoom problems...

  • BORROWING A SMALLER VT FLAG

    Parc National de Virunga Favorites

I normally carry around a large VT Flag. In fact 2 - and one is massive. So as I began to pack and plan my Gorilla Tracking in the DRC I thought:“Do I really want to wave around a large white flag around a wild animal that could get mad and rip off one or more of my limbs? For fun.”Also the idea of having a big white flag in mountains containing...

Between the heat and humidity you will need at least 2 litres of water per person. Also food. I took some...

  • Great fish and steaks!

    Kisangani Restaurants

Probably the most up scale restaurant in all of Kisangani. Great fish dishes and the best steak in town. Renowned for their fresh fish, steak sauces and liquor selection. Great dining can be had on the enclosed sidewalk to the front of the restaurant. Good service and a relaxed atmosphere. A favourite of the MONUC crowd.

Be very careful when taking pictures of locals as many of them do not want their picture taken. If you are close enough to talk to them ask their permission first.
