Currency

by grayfo

The general currency for Egypt is the pound (Geneih) usually written as L.E., it is made up of 100 piasters or 1,000 milliemes. It is mainly a paper currency but coins are used for fractions of the pound. Egypt's paper money has two faces; an Arabic face and an English one. The Arabic side has pictures of some of the historic mosques in Egypt.

Egypt from EU. Passport requirements..

by steevie_wanders

Thanks guys, my friend had no problems in the end and had a wonderful time. I thought you might be interested (especially for EU members) in the reply she had from the Egyptian consulate, whom she contacted just before her departure:Regarding your enquiry, the official requirement is> six months validity from > the date of travel but the local authorities in> Egypt are very flexible > regarding EU Nationals with 3-5 months left on their> passport validity. For > freedom of mind, we do recommend you to obtain a new> passport, but in case > you do not have the time to do so, we just would> like you to know that most > probably it won't be a problem at all. The final> decision is of the local > authority at the airport.> > > Please visit our website for detailed information> regarding visas and all > other Consular services ->...

Egypt met us with nice, but a bit windy weather! We made nice local friends in Hurghada! They live and work there! Believe me, as I know in every town all over the world you can meet normal and bad people! But this time we decided that we wouldn’t meet bad people! Our new friends showed us the best cafes were we tasted real Egyptian dishes!!!! We saw a genuine real dance show with professional Egyptian dancers! It was such a great show! We went to the deep sea on the boat! We saw great "Utopia Island" that is special for it has not any trees! We saw underwater life with thousands of multicolored fishes that live in the underwater forests of corals! We were in such a merry disco! I must say that the majority of tourists were from Russia! And a big part of shops, discos, hotels belong to Russia owners! The great show with Arabic horses! It was unbelievable!!! Arabic horses are known all over...

The Pyramids of Sharm El Sheikh!

by matt10gonzalez

Ras Mohammed ParkIt looks dead on the surface, but AWESOME in the water! And believe this: "Even if it’s cold- I don’t mind freezing to death here!" - Wacky Matt (Matt10gonzalez)That's true- What would Sharm be if it weren't for the beautiful Ras Mohammed? This marine park is packed with a lot of beauty that should deserve the fame and auraof the pyramids! Have you seen an usual ad picture of the Red Sea? (The colorful reef with pink fishes, you know) Chances are it's taken here and here's a photo shotpersonally by me- proof that even a cheap underwater camera can look awesome here! Words can't describe! Ras Mohammed, Truly the underwater version of the pyramids of Giza! ME- Just seeing sea snakes popping out of the corals- it really freaked mom out! The best part! Ras is truly teeming with marine life- even the mom freaks out!MICHAEL: Yeah, it's okay- as long as you have a lifevest!...

A Monastery Like in the Movies!

by matt10gonzalez

Egypt has tons of monasteries. But ask one important question: What monastery is very historical, famous, sacred (a pilgrimage spot even) and has a beautiful location? Let it be St. Catherine's! Nested in the middle of a Valley in the middle of the rocky mountainous Sinai desert , this centuries years old monastery was said to be the spot where Moses received the ten commandments. (Roman Catholics! I hope this sounds familiar to you!) On pictures, the whole thing usually looks pristine and peaceful, but in reality, It's:1.) Crowded with tourists!! (It's a pilgrimage site for Roman Catholics and some Christians)2.) Don't expect some of the staff or priests to be super friendly like golden retrievers who'll play with anybody! You're delusioned if you think they are! BUT! EXPECT THIS:3.) It's really beautiful, ancient and authentic. And if you pray, or study the building/ architecture well...

Contact a Local Guide

by tribalover

The best decision we made was to locate a Local Tour Guide Service. Rather than book through an Anglo company we went right to the source. On the Egyptian Travel Bureau website there is a long list of recemmended tour companies. These are the people you will eventually be using anyway so you might as well cut out the middle man. We ended up using a young man named Hussein who arranged everything for us and was very enthusiastic in making sure everything went well. It was much cheaper than the big name companies and we had a private tour guide who was actually studying the topics we were visiting.

QUOTES:Prince Charles inaugurates the opening of the exhibition "Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs" at the O2 arena in London.Actress Jennifer Love Hewitt gets acquainted with a camel during the premiere of the King Tut exhibit in Los Angeles, June 15, 2005. The photo is selfexpanatory, you can easily guess the monologue or rather the exchanged dialogue; however both should be proud of their assets :)) (Photo: AP/LA County Museum Of Art)*.Actor Brendan Fraser looks at a bust of King Tut during the premiere of the King Tut exhibit June 15, 2005, at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The photographer seems to imply something... Just compare the two prfiles of Tut and Brendan in the relavant photo..! You may notice what was in his mind then.......*National curator for "Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs," leads visitors on a tour of the exhibit June 15, 2005, at...

OUR FEASTS*

by sayedaburas

Islamic feasts are determined by lunar calendar. Eid Al-Fitr al-mubarak*(Breaking the fast) lasts for 3 days as of the 1st of Shawal (the 10th lunar month). It follows the Muslims' fasting month Ramadan. Eid Al-Adha al-mubarak *(Sacrifice) lasts for 4 days as of 10th of Dhul-Hejja (the 12th i.e. the last lunar month of the year). Muslims perform Haj at such month annually; the main peak day of Haj is 9th Dhul-Hejja, where pilgrims visit 'Arafat Mountain Area' and leave it before sunset. Christmas (Eid Al-Milad al-mageed) * is determined by solar calendar and celebrated on January 7th by Egyptian Christians (Copts), not on December 25th. Easter (Eid Al-Qe-ya-ma al-mageed/ Al-Fess-h)* As you may be aware it is determined by both lunar and solar calendars simultaneously. How?Start with solar month April !Find the 15th day of the corresoponding lunar month !Next Sunday will be the Easter,...
