The owner of our hotel, Mustapha was a very bossy but amusing character & he organised us to go on a cruise & then told us we were going! It appears he was also a travel agent & it cost us £45.00 for 4 nights all inclusive including site entrances, Pretty good deal!!
We were the only Brits on the board everyone else seemed to be German, they were really good sports in the evenings partcipating in the entertainment.

We got the overnight train from Cairo to Aswan. We chose to go first class, the price difference was nominal and for such a long journey definately worth it.
Left Cairo at 10 pm and arrived at Aswan 1pm the next day. Didnt sleep at all, but I was rewarded with the most wonderful sunrise.
Walking to to loo, there was a man in the corridor who followed me & then tried to kiss me. Maybe women should go in pairs especially at night when there is not anyone around.
The railway follows the Nile River all the way down, some stunning landscape & river views

To get to the other side of the Nile or to visit Kitcheners or Elephant, jump on a Felucca.
They are so Quiet & a wonderfully relaxing experience.
There are plenty of them lined up along the quay

A felucca is a wonderful mode of transportation around Aswan and to the many islands in the area. It is also a very relaxing mode of transportation. There will be feluccas sitting around at many places just waiting for some tourists to come along, so you should have no trouble finding one! =)

We take public bus from Hurghada to Aswan. It takes about 8 hours and we were in Aswan :-) The price was 30,-Le for one person.
I like to travel in public buses. It's much more interesting as with tourist buses. Here you have possibility to meet some locals, some interesting persons... As this time - we met one russian girl, who was married with egyptian man. And she goes from Safaga to Luxor. But the way how her trip to Luxor goes on was very interesting. Of course, for us :-) As we understand - she cann't travel alone, therefore she has companion - some egyptian man, who's main task was to convey this girl to Luxor...

One of the best ways to spend an afternoon in Aswan is via Felucca. You can sail up to the Nubian village, or down to the High Dam in Aswan via felucca.
I would recommend Capt. Jamaica, among others!

In case you like to visit the westbank, cameldrivers are waiting at the boatlanding for customers.
If you don't want to walk, the camels can bring you uphill to the Monastery of St Simeon.
I don't know the prices, because we prefered to walk.

The city is small enough to be visited on foot.
It is easy to find your way in Aswan because there are only three main streets.
One of the streets run parallel with the Nile river.
Parallel to this street there is the market street: shari as-souq. and next to this street, there is sharia abtal at-tahrir.
