Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: as most of the christian pilgrims start their mount sinai climb just after midnight and the route is pitch black except when there is a full moon, having portable flashlights is a must and some walking sticks even have built in mini led flashlights and these will be a plus. if riding a camel along the camel route, your bedouin guide and camel herder will not allow you to take pictures with flash as this would blind the camels temporarily (you might be thrown at the steep cliffs below by the camel) but using a flashling while riding a camel is allowed.
Photo Equipment: If you are the intrepid shooter of lots of films and videos on your travels, then you must have a powerful optical zoom camera like a canon sx50 (which has a 50x optical zoom) or a nikon coolpix 510 (42x optical zoom). They are less bulky than the DSLR cameras and the zoom capacity lets you view and shoot objects and pretty girls from far away. Also have the new large capacity SDXC cards, which are better than the regular SDHC cards which can hold only up to 32 gigabytes of memory as compared to the SDXC cards which now have up to 256 Gigabytes of memories. perfect for shooting full hd videos and taking pictures at the same time as the new cameras like the canon sx50 and olympus sz-31 MR can do. Being in Mount Sinai means taking lots of pictures (even panoramic shots) and Full HD videos as a good momento of your journey. Have also a USB powerbank storage device (preferably the 8,400 mAH up to 10,000 mAH variety so that you can do multiple recharges on camera battery before recharging your USB powerbank).
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: remember that Mount Sinai is a desert mountain, which means it does not absorb heat and hence the mountain is hot during the day and very cold during the night and most tourists and pilgrims climbing up the mountain start their hike after midnight to catch the sunrise atop mount sinai and hence the weather will be very cold, you must have an all weather mountain climbing jacket and gloves to keep out the chill as when you are at the top, renting blankets from enterprising bedouins to warm up will cost an arm and a leg as they chage LE 70 for the use of a blanket for 30 minutes.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: remember that Mount Sinai is a desert mountain, without any vegetation to speak of and the path going to the top and going down is made from large and small desert rocks and boulders and you might slip or fall down is you step on a small rock along the narrow and rocky route, so have the hiking stick or a wooden can is handy as it can act as your third foot and added support. you can buy the walking sticks which are retractable at most of the shops in front of the Saint Katherine Monastery or at the hotel shops in the hotel or inn you are staying for 100 LE (about 15 US Dollars a piece) or you can bring your own walking stick.
Luggage and bags:
A small backpack - you will be walking all the way up the mountain (approx 3 hours) so don't carry anything that you don't need.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Sturdy shoes (for climbing the mountain)
Photo Equipment: Yes!
Miscellaneous: Sunscreen - most important!
A hat (to protect from the sun)
Luggage and bags:
It better to use a backpack and not carry much on the mountain because will slow down the climbing.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Even if you climb Mt. Sinai in the summer months there are some mandatory things to take along: socks, hat, good walking shoes, scarf, sweater or jacket.
On the top of the mountain is really cold.
The ones that are not willing to carry anything with them, they can rent blankets for 10 LE (USD 2-).
On the top is really cold, but you can rent blankets for 10 LE (USD 2-).
Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Don't forget also a pocket lamp. It will be more than useful for the final part of the climbing.
It is cold during the extreme hours of early morning. So be prepared for light and warm clothing. If not, you can rent some blankets at the summit for a fee. In addition, you can rent the mattress where you can sat on whiling waiting for the first ray of sunlight. See more pics for blanketys and mattress.
In addition, bring along a torch of course.
Luggage and bags:
A small backpack would do to put your stuffs...
