  • A few drinks before dinner - Sharm El Sheikh
    A few drinks before dinner
    by beccyandjohn, 1 more photos
We went here most evenings before we had dinner as they where selling bottles of Stella 3 for 2 (approx 3.00 GBP for 3 bottles - bargain). The staff where all very pleasant and the seats were nice and comfy.

Pipes were also available along with some lovely looking alcohol free cocktails ( i never did have one but they looked really good)

    casual /smart

Egypt Hall, Savoy Hotel: New Years Eve in the Sun

  • Penguin, Polar bear ... and me :-) - Sharm El Sheikh
    Penguin, Polar bear ...
    and me :-)
    by SabrinaSummerville
Usually I hate New Years Eve, and this was one of the reasons I decided to travel abroad for it this year.

I was determined to make the most of it so I packed a wonderful dress for that night, and indeed I was so lucky that I did. Our hotel had organised an incredible new Years Eve gala dinner and dance for the night.

They ferried us across the road by coach to Egypt Hall, which is their conference centre. Here we queued outside an igloo (I kid you not, they had constructed an on-site igloo) outside the Hall and we went through a rigid security check (actually a relief to know security is tight these days) and walked into the igloo. When we emerged into what we expected to be an ordinary conference centre, we found ourselves in a giant ice cavern. I gasped, and I could hear others around me doing the same. The sight was truly breathtaking. The entrance area was set for the buffet banquet. Ice sculptures were everywhere, with the food dramatically displayed on counters made to look like snow drifts. Giant polar bears and penguins were interspersed among the snow drifts and "snow" was adrift on the floors.

This theme continued into the ballroom and everything glowed an almost eerie winter white.

Each guest was greeted with a glass of champagne to start the evening right. Tables were set with masks, streamers, and other party items.

After the meal there was a band (the hotel's resident band) and also a floor show Vegas-style. The best was yet to come. At ten minutes to midnight the main band of the evening came on and they were none other than the Gypsy Kings. The hall erupted. What better and more lively way to ring in the New Year than to the Spanish strains of Carlos guitar. At one point he broke a guitar string, reached from the stage, and handed it to me. It made my night perfect.

I want to do something similar next year :-)

Everyone made a great effort with their clothes. I brought a ball dress and so did many other ladies. I saw a couple of men in evening suits, but jacket and tie were probably the most appropriate for that evening. If you don't have a ball dress, bring a cocktail-type dress or at least something very pretty and party like for the ladies. There was no shortage of designer labels at this very posh party.

The Tavern Bar: English Bar in Egypt

  • The Tavern Bar is a dive hangout as well. With so many divers in Sharm, I suppose nearly all the bars/clubs are dive hangouts. But the Tavern is where many of our instructors headed after closing up to relax and have a cold drink.

There are three parts to Tavern Bar. The first floor is like an English bar with tall tables & stools and a huge-screen projector. There is also a small dj booth on the first floor and the house-dj mixes up house music. The second floor offers more relaxed seating and tvs. And there is an outside terrace on the second level that has a big-screen projector set up.

In addition to an extensive cocktail list, Tavern Bar serves up traditional eats like chips & vinegar, English-style steak, burgers, cottage pie, and many other mouth-watering treats. Main courses average around 40LE while steaks range from 60-90LE.

No dress code...most people go casual

if you want to rest, or to cool down it is right place for you. I've never been it England to tell you that it looks like real English pub, but it is pub. I think I was only one in there who wasn't drinking beer! :)
Guys if you want to impress girl, don't take her there on first date! :)

No dress code at all! As the metter of fact, the more ordinary you are dresses the more plasent you will feel there.

If they like you they will give you card with one stamp on your first visit, and after third you will be given sweet present. Every night there are dancers and lottery...

Guys what can i tell you, you will have to ware pants or at least 3/4 pants. Beside that, you will be welcomed no metter if you are waring t-shirt or shirt

  • Dont try getting in this place if you are American. It seems they had problems with American soldiers fighting in there a few years back and now its hard to get in. The people at the door and the managers were total jerks and just glared at me and my buddies when we tried to get in. You might get in with a date with you but they are total jerks inside.

This Bar/Brasserie was built in the summer of 2004 and as such is new at the time of writting. It is bright and almost posh, but at the same time very laid back and friendly. They have a couple of small screens on which they will show what people request rather than just leaving it on one channel. some nights you almost have the place to yourself, where as other nights it can get pretty busy.Prices are at the cheaper end of the scale for Naama bay.

Pretty much anything except probably beach wear.

Before show starts we were asked if we wanted to ride one of the camels or horses. They only wanted 1 EGP so i thought great and jumped on to the horse. Thinking about it, it probobly was the best idea as id been drinking and had no hat on thank fully i didnt fall off.

Then the sound and light show starts this was very good and worth going for.
